Georgia Business Search

eCorp search

Quick answer. eCorp is the Georgia Corporations Division’s online system. The business search does not require you to file anything. Pick a match type, enter a name or control number, and open the entity. The Division says the search shows the information of record and is not a name-availability product.

Steps

  1. Use the fields the form actually has

Business name, control number, registered agent name, officer name, and designated agent name are the inputs on the search page. There is no statewide search by street address of the storefront.

  2. Prefer the control number for a second look

Names get amended. The control number stays. If a contract and a website disagree about spelling, search the number from the formation receipt.

  3. Read the instructions on the page

eCorp tells you to select the search type, enter the name or number, and press search. It also warns that the tool is not for deciding whether a new name is free.

  4. Leave filing for a logged-in session

Annual registration with changes uses an eCorp account. One Click annual registration is a separate path for entities that are current and need no edits. Neither path is the public search.

Other searches on the same header

The eCorp header also offers service-of-process search and trademark search. Those are not the business-entity file. A trademark registration does not create a corporation, and a service-of-process listing is about where papers may be sent.

If the site is slow

eCorp is the system of record. A copied database on another website can lag it. If a closing depends on status, rerun the search on ecorp.sos.ga.gov the day you need the answer, and order a certificate if the other party requires one.

Common mistakes

  • Creating an account just to look up a name. The business search is public.
  • Mixing a trademark result into a corporation checklist.
  • Saving a control number with a transposed digit and then filing the annual registration against the wrong entity.

Questions

What does the eCorp search page say it includes?

Access to the entity’s information of record with the Secretary of State. Certificates and document copies are ordered separately, from the home area of the system.

Is there a phone number on the eCorp search?

The eCorp footer lists (404) 656-2817 and toll-free (844) 753-7825, and the Corporations Division address in Atlanta.

Can I search an officer across companies?

Officer name is a search field. Review each hit. Common names return many entities, and the officer listed is whoever was last reported, not necessarily a current employee.
